7 destinations on the rise in Europe

18 Jul 2017

Looking for a little “where to next” inspiration for your next holiday? Here are 7 destinations on the rise in Europe* which might just fit the bill.

1.Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

Commonly known as Las Palmas, this is the largest city in the Canary Islands and offers plenty of things to do. Las Palmas enjoys a sub-tropical climate with mild to warm temperatures all-year-round.

2.Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi is the capital and largest city in Georgia, located on the banks of the Kura River. Famous for its distinctive architecture, the city is made up from a broad mix of Medieval, Neoclassical, Art Nouveau, Stalinist and Modernist buildings. The layout of the Old Town is largely intact with narrow alleys and big crooked houses build around courtyards.

3.Malaga, Spain

Birthplace of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, Malaga is the largest city on the Costa del Sol. It boasts an impressive number of museums and monuments, including the 11th-century Alcazaba fort and Museu Picasso Malaga. A great diversion from the coast’s famed beaches and accompanying bars, the old city bustles with taverns and bistros. And the generous Paseo del Parque offers a delightful stroll past banana trees and fountains.

4.Kiev, Ukraine

One of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, Kiev, capital of Ukraine, lies on the banks of Dnipro River. Filled with theaters, museums, religious sites, modern buildings and ancient ruins, the city of Kiev is the centre of Ukrainian culture. Why not visit the World Heritage Sites of The Monastery of the Caves, founded in 1015, and Saint Sophia Cathedral, founded in 1037? And make time to climb up to the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, topped by the massive Motherland Statue and enjoy superb views of the city below.

5.Kaliningrad, Russia

The best time to visit Kaliningrad is between June and August when temperatures reach 20-25 °C. Formerly knows as Königsberg, it is known for amber products with most of the world’s harvestable amber still lying off its coast. Its’ C14th cathedral is worth a visit.

6.Bologna, Italy

Home to the oldest university in the Western world, this historic city is less well known by tourists so in comparatively quieter than Venice, Florence or Rome. Charming, historic and fun to explore with wonderful local cuisine, Bologna offers a wealth of things to do and see.

7.Rotterdam, The Netherlands

The fourth biggest port in the world, Rotterdam is known as a city of architecture. Holland’s most modern city began as a fishing village in the 13th century. It was developing into an industrial and trading power when German bombers destroyed the city centre and harbour in 1940. Today, Rotterdam’s unique architecture now brings many visitors to cycle around this urbane, cosmopolitan city. Old Dutch-style houses can still be found in historic Delfshaven, from where the pilgrims set sail in 1620. Cultural offerings ranging from the summer carnival to classical music can compete with those of Amsterdam.

We felt as though we were away for ever and had not 1 but 3 holidays!

We were planning a special trip to the Maldives and we chose Diamonds Thudufushi in the South Ari Atoll. Andy helped make all the arrangements including sourcing seats on direct BA flights at a competitive price. The holiday was wonderful and very relaxing. Would definitely recommend this beautiful island.

Thank you for booking such a great holiday - we had the best time we didn't want to come home! Orlando was absolutely fantastic, we loved it there - and we really liked Tampa too shopping there was great!! Was honestly the best holiday we've had! I'll have to start thinking soon where's next!

Thank you for organising our ANZCRO trip, it was fantastic. All the connections and hotels were spot on. Will recommend you to anyone thinking of doing any long haul trips.

Thank you for organising our trip to the States. We had a fantastic time everywhere we went. Hotels were well chosen and were very clean and comfortable with just the right amount of luxury for two night stays. Transport links all worked smoothly and having Cape Cod as our final stay was perfect with wonderful accommodation and beautiful beaches. Many thanks for your guidance!

We had the most fabulous time imaginable on our trip to India and would certainly go back.... we were lucky to come to you to arrange this trip.

The Jopling Family

I just wanted to thank you for your excellent service arranging our recent trip to Cyprus, no problems with the car park or flight. Also thanks for your prompt assistance with our queries while we were there. If you keep 'holding our hands' like this you'll never get rid of us!

Thanks for your advice on the Ghazala Gardens in Sharm El Sheik which proved to be a great place to stay and in a prime location. We had a really fantastic time and everything ran very smoothly, flights on time, transfers great, hotel very good.

The Deakin Family

I cannot recommend Buffalo Tours highly enough. Many thanks, Andy, as ever, for organising our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. It was certainly an adventure and a half!

Ralph and Alison

Thank you for arranging our trip to Athens. Hotel Hemes in Athens was a short walk away from everything we needed.

We had a great time in Kefalonia. The whole trip was very smooth and well organised by Ionian, and we would definitely use them again if going to that part of the world. We were also lucky with the weather, and even the hire car, as it appeared most of those who booked ahead of us had taken all the small cars leaving us with something slightly roomier and more powerful.

Living in Chorleywood, it gave us peace of mind to be able to speak directly to someone knowledgeable and book with a local Agent.
